this
this grinning madness
sits before me
and eggs me into complacency
this grinning madness
waits
patient and impatient
all at once
It angers me
with it’s laughter
with it’s sullen glares
and sudden movements
this grinning madness
waits to take me in it’s arms
into the arms of madness
all around me i hear noises
people pushing me closer
forcing me towards that goal
that grinning golem
forgotten idol, left for dead
this grinning madness
laughs
and
laughs
and
laughs
as i stumble
and fall into it’s
open arms
forever lost
in this grinning madness

Light and Run
The air around us is thick with
gun powder
The overhead hanging of clouds only
makes the reports louder
I long to be with you
but I am stuck here again
with nothing to do
I long to see your face
shadowed with the pretty lights
It makes me forget the hatred
forget the fights
I miss you I say as I light
and run
It flares up bright as the sun
And I think of you and
your gentle laughter
I’d always dreaded what
came after
The sparks die down and
fizzle out
I miss you without a doubt

Dedicated to the man I never knew.
1994 Patti Keno Poetry
by pattikeno
This desperate desire
for something more
than what is
for something more then what was
taking your hand
and grasping that chunk of hair
that you cut
thinking of all the days it knew
you rub your head
so short now
your head so light
should be easier to think
but then the headache sets in
and you lose your concentration
you lose the silence you
tried to commit to memory
and the voices close in
and the memories rise
to swallow you
in a volcano of emotion
leaving behind nothing
but ash
nothing but a hollow hole
where you once stood
Vesuvius all over again
volcanic eruptions swallow you
in their hot molten lava flow
and you are burnt
nothing but ashes
nothing but ashes and hair
